Music for the Eyes?
Achromatopsia is a rare visual condition of color blindness. This condition is so extreme images perceived by the eyes appear mostly in black, white, and grays. Artist Neil Harbisson was born with Achromatopsia. He has this antenna mounted on his skull enabling sound waves from the antenna travel into his inner hear thus allowing him to hear colors. A modified antenna pioneered by Adam Montandon of Plymouth University has the ability that detects wavelengths of light is used to compensate the users inability to perceive colors. Each color has its range of frequency. These range of colors has an equivalent note. The antenna identifies different colors through their frequency so as for the user, they can differentiate the objects color through sound. Neil Harbisson, throughout his years using the device, he has been able to recognize colors purely by on sound produced from the antenna. He was hailed as the Worlds First Cyborg Artist. Despite his condition, with the help of his antenna, he continues his work as a visual artist and a musician by translating visual objects into music and vice versa.Want to know more about this awesome device?
